Fashion Photography – Robini

Every once in a while I get the opportunity to dive deep into a strong photographic style. That was the case with my shoot for Zantedeschia Robini a few months ago. Then a few weeks ago it was time to follow up with some of her elegant jewellery pieces and the stunning Jess England.

Our style thermostat was set for classic and timeless and the simple bold geometry of Zantedeschia’s pieces were always going to suit a Black and White treatment, so all I had to do was pick which lights to use, play with my contrast levels, and capture Jess and her magic.

Isn’t she enchanting? These pictures remind me of my favourite Elizabeth Taylor portraits. It’s so good to work with a client like Z who has a clear vision…model, hair & makeup, dress…everything works perfectly together here. Just to take things up a notch, we brought some flags into the mix to create extra shadows for a little intrigue.

The whole exercise was so much fun, and I love that Z used my mate Graham Warman’s excellent work for her product shots (she did ask, but I told her I wasn’t going to do anything better than Graham already had done. Dunedin is too small a town to BS clients and friends). You can see the end result on the Robini site. We all think it’s pretty fab. Remember fellas, Christmas is coming.
