Shot of the week #257

Not anti style, just…

This shot comes from Dunedin’s Wharf street. The historic asbestos-roofed wharf sheds there are being demolished to make way for car parking, so I thought I’d pop along and get a few frames of the old structures before they’re gone. They’ve been the scene of plenty of photo shoots over the years, even a Fortune Theatre production of The Caretaker but now, like the Fortune they’re being consigned to history.

Perhaps one day the Van Brandenburg grand architectural vision for the harbour basin will take their place, but I can’t help thinking it would be smart to keep one of the original sheds (minus asbestos) as a reminder of when the area was a busy part of Dunedin’s import/export sector.
